ALIGNMENT IS IMPORTANT
Improper Alignment Shortens Tire Life and Increases Fuel Consumption
When tandem axle tires are out of alignment, the front wheels must be turned in the opposite direction in order to offset the turning force of the tandem.
DON'T FORGET TRAILER ALIGNMENT!
If the trailer wheels are out of alignment, a driver must compensate for the pull caused by the misalignment. This will result in tractor tire wear.
ALIGNING THE STEER AXLE IS NOT ENOUGH
One of the most important factors in front-end tire wear is drive axle misalignment. A misaligned drive axle will affect every wheel on the rig. If a rig travels 125,000 miles for a year with a toe misalignment on the drive axle by only 0.1 inch (or .06 degrees), the end result would be equal to dragging your tires sideways for 100 miles! Multiply that by the number of tractors in your fleet!
